Piyanomini.

From a music teacher's workshop.

Ars is a music practice space spanning rhythm, harmony and counterpoint. Manus is a linear, interactive book that accompanies a full year of piano learning. Tensus tunes the piano from measurements of its own strings, not from a standard table.

Piyanomini 3 apps

Three apps, three different jobs.

Ars is made for focused, deep music practice. Manus turns a full piano-learning journey into a book you can touch, hear and play. Tensus is made for tuning the piano itself.

The difference begins with the very first sound.

Manus does not chase the appearance of quick progress. It builds a durable musical foundation in which sound, reading, technique and expression are inseparable, and every new skill moves the student towards independent musicianship.

Sound comes first

The first notes are made separately with a balanced finger and free arm weight. The goal is not to play many notes at once, but to establish a full, relaxed and carefully heard tone.

Weight · Balance · Tone

The keyboard is one whole

The hand is not confined to five neighbouring keys for months. Students travel across the keyboard from the beginning, without confusing notes with a fixed hand position or finger number.

Geography · Not position

Reading means real reading

Music writing is introduced from the first lessons through its horizontal and vertical axes. Students see the sign, imagine the sound and find its place on the keyboard independently.

See · Think · Find

Expression is not postponed

Detached, connected and short touches, dynamics and musical character all appear in the early repertoire. How a sound speaks matters as much as pressing the right key.

Articulation · Dynamics

Technique serves the music

Movement is learned as a way to produce a desired sound and character, not as isolated finger gymnastics. Technique grows together with listening and musical imagination.

Movement → Sound → Meaning

The goal is independence

With a sound foundation, students learn to read, understand and shape a new piece on their own. Their dependence on the teacher gradually decreases.

Tune the piano to its own strings.

Tensus is a tuning app for acoustic pianos. It calculates tuning targets from the measured strings of the piano in front of you, not from a standard table.

Tensus is currently in development. Instagram · @piyanomini.tensus

Live overpull

Pitch raise · Soundboard · Key by key

When you raise the pitch of a flat piano, every string you pull up lowers the others through the bridge and soundboard. So each key is pulled slightly above its target.

Tensus recalculates this margin for every key while you tune, counting only the keys that are not yet tuned. The margin shrinks as the tuning progresses and reaches zero on the last keys. A fixed margin computed once at the start over-pulls the last keys as well.

Tensus also measures how much this piano's soundboard lowers the strings: the reading taken before you touch the pin is compared with the expected drop. The learned value is saved with the piano, and the next tuning starts from it.

Measuring and tuning

A tuning curve for this piano

Tensus measures on 22 keys how far the partials drift from exact multiples (inharmonicity). Tuning targets are calculated from that measurement.

22 keys · Inharmonicity

Octave width

Octaves are stretched by a model based on measurements of well-tuned pianos (Rigaud et al., 2013). Bass, middle and treble are adjusted separately.

Bass · Middle · Treble

Partial strobe

The first four partials of every note are tracked in separate bands. Each band shows how far its partial is from the target.

Partials 1-4

Finds the key itself

The played key is recognised from the spectrum of the sound, with no tapping on the screen. The key can also be locked by hand.

Automatic · Locked

Tune at current pitch

The piano can be tuned at its present average pitch instead of being pulled to A4 = 440 Hz. This option moves the strings the least.

Compromise pitch · Single pass

A record for each piano

Each piano keeps its own measurements, tuning curve, soundboard value and tuning history.
